Join us at cafe church this Sunday. Joining details at the bottom of this page.
You will need a bible (any version), string or wool to make plaits (aka 3 long strands, preferably in 3 colours if you can), paper and scissors, and a straw.
UPDATE:! IF YOU WANT TO, ALSO BRING A PICNIC… AND ONE MORE THING. WE ARE GOING TO DO A ‘KINDA COMMUNION’. (SEE WAAAAAYY BELOW FOR WHY IT IS KINDA…). FOR THIS YOU CAN HAVE ANYTHING TO EAT AND ANYTHING TO DRINK. SO YOU MAY WANT TO GO WITH BREAD AND WINE, OR YOU CAN GRAB A BISCUIT AND A DRINK.
Print the chat mat as soon as you can (or even after to keep thinking) , look into it. What can you find? Have a think about the questions and have a think about the bible verse. Looking forward to seeing you!

(Why is it a kinda communion? Holy Communion in the Church of England is a little bit like a brand name in a franchise. When you say Holy Communion, then you know whichever church of England you go into, it will always have certain words said in a certain way. And that you are physically in the same space, with a vicar type hosting it. Anything else we don’t tend to call by that name because it would cause a bit of confusion. BUT that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate the last supper that Jesus had with his friends in any other way, it just we don’t call it that.
My preferred way, wherever I am, and with whoever it is, if they want to and it doesn’t fit in the above ‘branded’ way of doing things, is simply to grab something to eat and drink and read together, or have someone read to us, 1 Corinthians chapter 11, verse 23 to 29. if I can, i get some bread and wine (a whole loaf… of bread, that is. you can’t get a loaf of wine. now that would be an idea…. 😉
And just in case you wondered, my personal view is that it doesn’t matter which way you do it, it’s still doing what Jesus told us to do. There is no difference.
As we move forward with online things more and more, one thing we will need to do is recognise that those who are unable to go to church because of disability or some other reason, have found real church online. To say that the ‘branded’ form above is the ONLY way of having communion does somewhat demene what they do. I am hopeful that those who have the authority to do so will think carefully about the future.
